My currently-favorite poet, Pablo Neruda, is my favorite precisely because he finds beauty in the mundane. This is, by the way, also why I love Don Quixote. The next few weeks are all about finding beauty, or poetry, or a story, or inspiration, in the positively mundane. Enjoy.

My favorite Neruda poem of that ilk is his "Ode to tomatoes." Although that one other poem about socks ("Ode to socks"?) is also very good. If you really like Neruda, check out Red Poppy at www.redpoppy.net. It's a non-profit set up to create a documentary about him, publish his biography, and translate his works into English.
