Hate = fear + ignorance

I found this interesting equation on Jan's blog.  What can you do with the idea that fear + ignorance = hate?  If you like, take any one or more of these words and go from there.

1.  Lulubelle B @ Lulu Unlimited = Diagnosis
2.  Bonnie @ Bonnie's Books = Fear + Ignorance = Hate

Postcards and/or Hunger

We are in the middle of National Postcard Week, from Sunday, May 6, through Saturday, May 12.  Do you ever sent postcards?  Are you a collector?  Can you remember receiving a special postcard?  People used to call these "penny post cards" because it cost a penny to mail one, as you can see by the photo below (click to enlarge).  Sending a postcard today will cost you 32-cents postage.

And one more thing Saturday, May 12th, is the day to Stamp Out Hunger.  Just fill a bag with non-perishable items and set it out beside your mailbox.  This is the 20th year, since letter carriers first picked up food donations in 1992.  Have you ever taken part in this food drive?  This video has more information.  (The video is also online, here.)

A dollar bill that's been written on

I've seen dollar bills with writing on them, usually telling me to go to www.wheresgeorge.com, like this one.  What comes to mind when you think of a dollar bill — or any denomination — with writing on it?  Would you want to "follow the path of a twenty dollar bill as it is stolen, given, spent or otherwise passed from person to person, traveling from place to place"?  (There's actually a book about that.)  Could you write a story about a bill that's been written on?

Think about the prompt, write about it, and come back to share a link to what you wrote.  (Be sure you link to the actual POST, not just to your blog.)

From here to there

I read somewhere that "the state nearest Africa is Maine."  Of course, the first thing I did was look at a map and then at a globe to try to figure out if that was true.  This globe shows the Atlantic, and I can see Africa is higher than I thought and the northeast part of the United States seems tipped to the right.  Yup, Maine IS closer.  I'm amazed.

Think about getting "from here to there," write about it, and come back to share a link to what you wrote.  (Be sure you link to the actual POST, not just to your blog.)

Pizza delivery

Imagine a pre-paid pizza delivered to the wrong address.  How did that happen?  What would happen next?  It's already paid for, right?  And the address is correct, no mistake.  Hmmm, could you develop a story from this?  What's going on?

Think about the prompt, write about it, and come back to share a link to what you wrote.  (Be sure you link to the actual POST, not just to your blog.)

Flip

HEADER
What can I do to revive Weekend Wordsmith?
I've decided to flip it over.
So our new header will look like this.
PROMPTS
I started this blog in 2007, and for three and a half years now, Rich has been coming up with prompts.  I've noticed that Rich hasn't been posting his own responses, so maybe if I start posting the prompts again, he will be able to get back to his own writing.  Your first assignment on our "flipped" blog, if you choose to accept the challenge, is to write a thank you note to Rich for all the years of work he's put into this blog.

How many ways can we say thanks?  Let's fill the comments with our gratitude.  Ready, set, go!

1.  Bonnie @ Bonnie's Books = Thanks
2.  Bonnie @ Words from a Wordsmith = Thanks to Rich
3.  Swapnap @ comments below this post = a zilllion thanks
4.  Lady Whispers @ comments below this post = heart felt thanks :)
5.  Swapnap @ comments below this post = I miss it

to Rich ... for all the time you devoted to this blog.
